All,
I am attemp
ting an unknown thru calibration on a PNA N5227A with SMA connectors. I am wondering what the limitations are on this calibration. I have a unknown thru that has not-so good match (<- 10dB) from 10 MHz to 16 GHz. My loss is about 23 dB at 16 GHz. Whenever i do the calibration, i get an unrealistic post-calibration measurement (i.e. S11 < -30 dB) and S21 essentially open (-40dB) across this particular frequency range. I am wondering if i have to use a better matched thru and/or less lossy thru. The documentation stipulates that as long as you dont have 40 dB loss including the cables this method should work. I am dumbfounded as to what could be going on. I can post some of the plots if this helps answer the question.
thank You,
What FW? What Calkit are you using? What is the UT that you are using (filter, pad?) . If the UT radiates that can be a trouble as well. Is the trouble at all frequencies are at just a subset?
