I have what I believe is the whole set of HP documentation on the '8590A and descriptions of what is going on in the dozens (!) of self-test/CAL routines and sub-routines just isn't there. I do have a specific problem. The unit is my "school" unit - the parts junker I bought and that over a several year period gets to be the guinea pig for fixes and experiments. It has improved to the point that it passes all but the last few steps of CAL AMPL. I can see that there is going to be an issue when the cal signal on the screen goes well off the screen upscale. Then, sure enough - FAIL. I don't have the unit on the bench just now (and the bench is about three projects deep), but I suspect that the failure is in some of the narrower bandwidth tests. I've swapped analog modules from a known good analyzer and the same failures persist - making me suspicious of failures in A/D or digital pot settings. |
